Margriet Schaberg is Counsel in the firm's Insurance and Litigation Groups where she focuses her practice on advising and representing insurers in litigated and non-litigated matters in both state and federal courts in New Jersey and New York. While her practice focuses primarily on insurance coverage litigation involving toxic tort and environmental claims (asbestos, lead paint, soil and groundwater contamination, and other long-tail allocation issues), her coverage and litigation experience covers a very broad range. She has represented clients with respect to general liability, commercial property, homeowners, business interruption, professional liability, EIL, and other types of insurance policies. Over the course of her practice, she has gained significant experience in all aspects of litigation and has succeeded in achieving favorable outcomes for her clients involving complex allocation, bad faith, extra-contractual, unfair trade practices, additional insured, reformation, and personal and advertising injury coverage issues. Most recently, she has had experience with Superstorm Sandy litigation, as well as claims for coverage brought in connection with New York’s Labor Law Section 240.
Margriet also devotes a portion of her practice to representing the interests of individuals and businesses in professional liability, personal injury and other commercial litigation matters.
She is a former Judicial Intern for the Hon. Peter E. Doyne, Superior Court of New Jersey, Chancery Division. While pursuing her law degree, Margriet was Notes and Articles Editor of the Fordham Environmental Law Review. Thomson Reuters has included her on the Super Lawyers "Rising Star" list for Insurance Coverage for 2013 - 2016. See Awards and Honors Methodology.
