Riker Danzig Scherer Hyland & Perretti LLP is pleased to announce that Dara Aquila Govan has been elected Vice President of Region III of the National Bar Association, as well as Co-Chairperson of the NBA's Young Lawyers Division Community Outreach Committee.

Founded in 1925, the National Bar Association is the oldest and largest nationwide organization for African-American lawyers. As Vice-President of Region III, which encompasses New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware, Ms. Govan will serve the Association's mission to "… improve the administration of justice … and to uphold the honor and integrity of the legal profession." In her role as Community Outreach Committee Co-Chairperson for the Young Lawyers Division, she is responsible for coordinating the Division’s outreach programs for the year.

One of the first programs Ms. Govan will implement is the Touch Ten Thousand Challenge, which involves recruiting 100 young lawyers throughout the NBA to volunteer one hour per month to perform community outreach to a different group of at least ten children or adults. Through the year-long program, young lawyers will touch the lives of at least ten thousand individuals by sharing information on essential topics that are plaguing the community and by assisting members of the community in making positive choices for themselves, their families and their future.

An associate in Riker Danzig's litigation group, Dara Govan concentrates her practice in a wide range of commercial, litigation and financial service matters and business disputes. She frequently lectures on legal research and writing and currently serves on the New Jersey Supreme Court Committee for Minority Concerns for the Morris and Sussex County Vicinage. Ms. Govan earned her law degree, cum laude, Order of the Coif, from Rutgers University School of Law-Newark in 2001 and her B.S. from Morgan State University in 1998.
