Riker Danzig was pleased to provide critical relief to a pro bono client affiliated with the Battered Women’s Legal Advocacy Project who was seeking a Final Restraining Order (“FRO”) against her former partner.  While the process to obtain an FRO, an often permanent replacement of a TRO, can be quite complex, Riker Danzig associate Corey L. LaBrutto successfully secured the FRO for the young assault victim.  Corey advocated for the client in a live bench trial before the Hon. James DeMarzo, who found by a preponderance of the evidence that our client was entitled to the protection of an FRO.  Judge DeMarzo also imposed other requirements on the defendant.

Riker Danzig has long been committed to pro bono efforts and community service, and encourages active engagement in pro bono cases by its attorneys for organizations that include Partners for Women and Justice, CASA, Volunteer Lawyers for Justice, and the Jersey Battered Women’s Service.  The Battered Women’s Legal Advocacy Project is a joint program of the Morris County Bar Association and the Jersey Battered Women’s Service, providing pro bono representation to victims of domestic violence who lack resources to obtain representation but may not qualify for presentation through Legal Services.
