Riker Danzig Governmental Affairs and Litigation Partner Stuart Lederman was quoted in the Law360 article on November 13, 2014, “Wolf’s No-Bid Contract Ban Bad News For Establishment Firms.” The article discussed Pennsylvania Governor-Elect Tom Wolf’s reported plans to require bids before the State hires outside lawyers. Stuart commented that the mechanics of the plan will determine the degree to which politics might remain in the process, noting that, in New Jersey, there is no requirement that the government pick the lowest bid. “Particularly, if there are fixed rates, someone can then say, ‘we prefer this firm or that firm,’” Stuart said. He also observed that many of the law firms that had previously worked with the New Jersey State Government are the same firms that worked with it before procurement reforms. See the full article.
