Under the keen supervision of Grow It Green’s Farmer Shaun and Farmer Megan, a group of 12 Riker Danzig employees helped prepare the Urban Farm for its fall growing season yesterday. Partner Jeffrey M. Beyer, an insurance litigator and Board Member of Grow it Green Morristown, coordinated the volunteer day at the Urban Farm in Morristown.  After rescheduling our original date due to rain, we braved what turned out to be quite a hot and humid afternoon, weeding and clearing garden beds and compost, weighing and bundling fresh radishes, harvesting hops, preparing beds for planting, and even feeding the chickens. The Urban Farm is New Jersey’s largest public school garden, and is managed by a small staff, part-time interns and community volunteers.  It donates the majority of its produce to local charities, selling the rest back to the community through its farm stands and Community Supported Agriculture.  In addition, the children in the Morris School District visit the Urban Farm for hands-on education about growing food in your own garden, and healthy food options.

Thanks to all who came out for a productive and rewarding afternoon:  A.J. Banks, Meagan Buckle, Silva Dechoyan, Richelle Delavan, Benjamin Gehlbach, Rita Janson, Nora Juzefyk, Iryna Kastsiuk, Lynn Madden, Hayley Meigh, Anne Shulman, and Collette Vassallo.
