Riker Danzig Receives 2020 Champion of Good Works Award

The Firm is proud to have once again been honored as a “Champion of Good Works” at the Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey’s “Companies That Care” virtual awards ceremony on September 30, 2020.  CIANJ President Anthony Russo said at the awards ceremony, “For most of the companies we are honoring, giving back and helping those in need is part of their culture.”

Riker Danzig and the other honorees were selected by a blue-ribbon panel of judges.  Riker was honored specifically in connection with our pro bono counsel assisting a young woman with mental and developmental disabilities, who, at the age of 15, survived a sexual assault  committed by a supervisor at the residential facility where she lived. Riker Danzig Counsel Rebecca A. Borgese served as Guardian ad Litem to evaluate and pursue legal remedies on behalf of the young woman.  As the voice of the minor, Rebecca read the Victim Impact Statement at the perpetrator’s sentencing hearing.  Then, stepping into the minor’s shoes, she retained victims’ rights counsel to file a lawsuit against the residential facility.  She now serves as co-trustee of the Trust that was created with the proceeds of the settlement obtained.  The Trust will be used to enrich the young woman’s life, including by accessing treatment, support and therapy that she may not have been able to otherwise obtain.

Rebecca accepted the award along with Partner A.J. Borrelli on behalf of Riker, which has also received “Champion of Good Works” awards in 2019, 2018, and 2016.
