James M. Maggio, Jr. is a Partner of the Firm, focusing on commercial real estate and related corporate transactions.
Jim’s practice encompasses a wide variety of matters. He represents clients in complex commercial real estate matters, including joint ventures, primarily handling significant multimillion-dollar transactions. He has helped clients to sell and acquire substantial commercial properties and to secure permanent and/or construction financing for the acquisition and/or development of significant office and industrial properties.
Jim is also a member of the Firm’s Financial Institutions Practice Group, and in that capacity has represented institutional lenders in complex financing transactions. He also advises landlords and tenants in reviewing, negotiating and drafting office and industrial leases along with ancillary documents. In addition, he also regularly advises clients with respect to realty transfer taxes and the structuring of real property holdings.
Jim uses his extensive background to help solve his clients’ complex issues and challenges and implement business and practical-minded strategies. Jim began his career as a commercial litigator and brings that unique knowledge and experience “to the table” when drafting and negotiating complex commercial transaction documents.
Jim is a well-regarded speaker on real estate issues. He has regularly participated in a number of RealShare New Jersey and Bisnow conferences and events, including: “The Needs of the Modern Office User” (2013); the “Development Panel” (2014); “Industry Leaders Town Hall: A View from the Top” (2016); “Industrial: How Long Will it Remain the Darling of CRE Investment Types” (2017); and “Future of Newark” (2018).
Jim is a former Law Clerk to Hon. Ralph V. Martin, J.S.C., Superior Court of New Jersey-Passaic County. He is a graduate of the Morris Pashman Inn of Court. While pursuing his law degree, he served as a Legal Intern of the Seton Hall Law School Center for Social Justice and as a member of the Peter W. Rodino Jr. Law Society.
