Riker Danzig Secures Final Restraining Order for Pro Bono Domestic Violence Victim

October 15, 2021

Riker Danzig was pleased to achieve a very favorable result for a pro bono client in conjunction with Partners for Women & Justice (“Partners”), protecting a domestic violence victim by securing a Final Restraining Order (“FRO”).  Our team represented the plaintiff, who had been repeatedly abused both verbally and physically by the defendant, including being punched in the mouth and threatened with violent death in the presence of her children.

Our team prepared the plaintiff for direct and cross-examination at the in-person hearing on the FRO, a much more complex and often permanent replacement of the TRO, and argued for the FRO at the hearing.  The plaintiff was able to testify very effectively as to the three acts of domestic violence committed against her, including an egregious physical assault.  Our team was able to secure an admission from the defendant that he had committed the alleged acts of domestic violence, and Judge Glenn Slavin of Middlesex County awarded the FRO against the defendant.  Partners’ client was extremely relieved by the result, gratefully envisioning a fresh start.

Riker Danzig has long been committed to pro bono efforts and community service, and encourages active engagement in pro bono cases by its attorneys.  Riker Danzig counsel Anne M. Mohan serves on the Board of Directors for Partners, whose mission is to provide legal assistance to victims of domestic violence who cannot afford an attorney but whose income disqualifies them from using Legal Services.  Riker Danzig attorneys have handled multiple cases for Partners.
