Riker Danzig has supported the ALR since its inception in 1999 by raising critical funds and awareness for lupus research through various employee fundraisers, attorneys and staff serving in leadership positions, and providing legal services. Founded by Robert Wood Johnson IV, a member of the Johnson & Johnson family and owner of the New York Jets, the ALR has become the largest private funder of lupus research in the world. The ALR’s mission is to find better treatments and ultimately prevent and cure systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE, or lupus), a debilitating autoimmune disease, by supporting medical research. Lupus affects an estimated 1.5 million Americans, with no exact cause identified and no known cure. To date, the ALR has committed nearly $100 million to innovative and aggressive lupus research. 100% of every dollar raised goes directly to support lupus research programs because the ALR’s Board of Directors funds all administrative and fundraising costs.
