October 31, 2016

Riker Danzig is pleased to announce that the New Jersey Law Journal "Top 20" has named the firm #1 among New Jersey Law firm in pro bono hours for the 2002 fiscal year. Riker Danzig's Pro bono chairman Robert Gilson received credit for increasing the number of hours by opening up non-traditional pro bono opportunities such as tax and corporate matters, "[encouraging] attorneys to get involved with nonprofit, community organizations, especially in their own town."

Riker Danzig is a member of the Pro Bono Partnership, a tax-exempt public charity that provides a complete legal resource center for nonprofit organizations. The Partnership has had great success in teaming up law firms and in-house corporate counsel to work together in providing pro bono assistance to nonprofits in a number of practice areas, including corporate, tax, real estate, environmental and employment.

Among Riker Danzig's pro bono clients are:

The Morris Center YMCA, for which the firm handled a complicated real estate purchase for the YMCA's Owls Child Care Center for underprivileged children.

Tikva Corp., a charity which provides an orphanage and schools for destitute Ukrainian Jews. Riker Danzig represented Tikva in its formation, securing its tax-exempt status as a U.S. public charity, and addressing special considerations related to funding overseas non-profit ventures, and continues to counsel it on corporate governance and compliance.

The New Jersey Industry, Science and Educational Consortium, which the firm represents regarding pre-dissolution liabilities.

The Puerto Rican Family Institute, which the firm is assisting in obtaining tax exempt status.
