Riker Danzig Mourns Death of the Hon. Dickinson Debevoise

October 31, 2016

Riker Danzig mourns the passing of our former partner and friend, the Honorable Dickinson R. Debevoise.  Prior to serving as a federal judge, he led the firm as Senior Partner of Riker Danzig Scherer Debevoise & Hyland.

Judge Debevoise joined the Firm in 1953 following a federal district court clerkship with Judge Phillip Forman in Trenton after graduating from Columbia Law School. In 1979 President Jimmy Carter nominated him to the New Jersey federal bench, on which he served for more than 35 years, until his death.

Some of his contributions to civil justice and reform while with Riker Danzig are discussed in this New Jersey Law Journal story of August 31st.

Judge Debevoise was a strong leader, a brilliant legal strategist and a great friend.  He will be greatly missed.
