Riker Danzig obtained a successful result in the Appellate Division on behalf of its client, the Newark Board of Education.
The Appellate Division rejected the appeal by a terminated teacher who sued the Newark Board of Education in a whistleblower action. The Riker Danzig team, led by partners Marc D’Angiolillo and Stephanie D. Edelson, had tried the case and obtained a no cause verdict from a jury in Essex County that rejected the teacher’s claims after a three-week trial. The teacher then sought to appeal that verdict and made fourteen claims of error in the evidentiary decisions and jury charges. Marc and Brenda Liss, General Counsel for the Newark Board of Education, argued the appeal, and the panel rejected each of the teacher’s claims, affirming the verdict below in a significant result for the Newark schools.
