Riker Danzig is pleased to announce that James B. Daniels and Tod S. Chasin have joined the Firm, resident in Riker Danzig’s midtown Manhattan office. Both formerly practiced at Budd Larner.
Jim joins as a partner, and will continue to represent major corporations and closely-held businesses in complex commercial litigation, computer law, and toxic tort and products liability matters. He litigates complex matters in both state and federal courts involving breach of contracts, minority shareholder rights suits, business dissolution disputes, sophisticated technology disputes, and employment-related disputes. Jim also represents clients in arbitrations before various panels. Among his clients are major financial institutions, investment companies and private equity firms for which he handles a wide array of commercial and creditors’ rights matters, and real estate entities in cases involving distressed loan portfolios. Jim also represents title insurance companies, frequently defending against real estate title claim claims involving priority disputes, construction law and lien law claims. He graduated Brandeis University in 1974 and earned his J.D. from Boston University School of Law in 1977.
Tod joins as Counsel, bringing extensive experience in creditors’ rights and complex commercial litigation in state and federal courts at both the trial and appellate levels. Tod represents major corporations in a wide variety of commercial litigation claims, including disputes involving corporate control, fiduciary duty, real property litigation, trade secret and restrictive covenant disputes, and construction and suretyship claims. He represents institutional lenders and financiers in inter-creditor disputes, commercial loan enforcement, and lender liability claims in courts of general and bankruptcy jurisdiction. In addition, Tod has significant intellectual property litigation experience, representing domestic and international clients in Hatch-Waxman patent infringement and invalidity actions, complex trademark and unfair competition litigation, and civil actions before the United States Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. Tod is a 1982 graduate of Rutgers University, cum laude, and received his J.D. from New York University School of Law in 1985
Co-Chairman Brian E. O’Donnell said, “We are delighted to welcome Jim and Tod to our litigation team in New York. Their diverse practices and solid experience complements our existing litigation group very well. We look forward to incorporating them into the life of the Firm.”
