Riker Danzig Counsel Stephanie Wolfe has been tapped to serve on the newly-created "Working Group on Ethical Issues Involving Metadata in Electronic Documents" committee of the New Jersey Supreme Court. To be chaired by Supreme Court Associate Justice Anne Patterson, this committee will consider whether existing attorney ethics rules allow lawyers who receive electronic documents to mine the documents for metadata.
According to Chief Justice Stuart Rabner, the working group will help the court consider what guidelines it should provide to attorneys given recent advances in technology and information systems. Specifically, they will consider the ethical obligations of attorneys sending and receiving electronic documents that contain metadata and will submit its report to the Supreme Court for review.
