Commercial finance transactions are usually extraordinarily complex affairs, and that is why financial institutions in New Jersey often turn to Mark S. Rattner to handle them. After over twenty years as a partner with the firm, he is now Of Counsel and continues to serve as the head of the Financial Institutions Group.
New Jersey lenders know that Mark not only provides the kind of attention to detail that their matters require; they also know about his reputation as a lawyer who gives full attention to any transaction he is handling. Mark is known as a lawyer who takes ownership of the deal.
Mark handles all aspects of commercial lending transactions, including working-capital loans, mortgages, construction loans, letters of credit and asset-based transactions. He also has significant expertise, developed during the economic downturn of the early 1990s, in restructuring troubled loans and financings. His clients include such top financial institutions as Wells Fargo, Bank of America, JP Morgan Chase and Merrill Lynch.
Mark has had a hand in some of New Jersey's most important construction projects and business deals. He has been involved in the transactions that have resulted in the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, the construction of the luxury boxes in Giants Stadium, and the purchase of the New Jersey Devils hockey team.
Before joining the firm, Mark served as Law Secretary to Justice Worrall Mountain of the New Jersey Supreme Court (1976-1977) and thereafter as Deputy Attorney General, representing the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance and the New Jersey Division of Taxation (1977-1981).
Besides his busy law practice and outside professional activities, Mark also is co-chair of Riker Danzig's marketing committee. Best Lawyers in America®, a peer review of U.S. lawyers, named Mark the Corporate Law “Lawyer of the Year” in 2015, 2018 and again for 2020 and the Banking and Finance Law “Lawyer of the Year” for the Newark region in 2016. “Lawyer of the Year” honors are given annually to a single attorney in a particular practice area in each region.
