ALTA's TitleNews Online Features Riker Danzig's Analysis of Alley Rights Coverage Dispute

July 22, 2026

The American Land Title Association (ALTA) featured an article from Riker Danzig's Banking, Title Insurance, and Real Estate Litigation Blog in the July 21, 2026 edition of TitleNews Online, ALTA's industry news publication for title insurance professionals.

The article, authored by Of Counsel Michael R. O'Donnell and Summer Associate Sharanya Thondapu, analyzed 1723 S. Michigan (Chicago) Landco, LLC v. Chicago Title Insurance Co., in which the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois held that a Schedule B exception for the rights of the city and the public in a 16-foot alley unambiguously barred coverage for the city's claim to a portion of the insured property.

TitleNews Online is provided by ALTA’s Title Counsel Committee, which reviews significant court rulings and other legal developments, and explains the relevance to the title insurance industry.

The article feature can be found here (log in required). Our original blog post on this case can be found at Landco v. Chicago Title Blog Post.
