Governmental Affairs partner Mary Kay Roberts was a panelist on “Don’t Like the Rules? Change the Law – Advocacy for Lawyers,” a CLE course presented by ICLE on December 1, 2023. Mary Kay and the other speakers provided an overview of the sources of legislation and how laws are created, and then went through the steps of creating law, from pitching the idea to a legislator to the role of legislative committees in the process. They also discussed the importance of legislative intent and the function of the Uniform Law Commission, and demonstrated how to ensure that a proposed law is interpreted in a way that coincides with your intent.
