Riker Danzig teamed up with Grow it Green Morristown for a volunteer event in recognition of Earth Day on Wednesday, April 19. Riker Danzig employees were given the afternoon off to assist with weeding, clearing garden beds and other preparations for the upcoming 2017 growing season and school trips to Grow It Green’s Urban Farm. The Urban Farm is New Jersey’s largest public school garden, and is managed by a small staff, part-time interns and community volunteers.
Riker Danzig partner A.J. Borrelli, a securities litigator and Chairman of the Firm’s Green Committee, led the Riker Danzig team. “The people of Grow It Green do such great work in our community and we have always supported them. This year, we wanted to find a way to get personally involved. The Urban Farm is a special place that introduces schoolchildren to the importance of farming and healthy eating, and it also operates a farm stand and donates tons of food to local charities. We are happy to contribute in a meaningful way to another successful season for Grow It Green.”
Borrelli took a group of 18 Riker Danzig volunteers, who weeded and cleared garden beds and pathways, planted flowers, made and spread compost, secured a trellis for the hops vines, and even fed the chickens, all under the direction of Grow It Green’s Director of Agriculture and Education, Shaun Ananko, otherwise known as “Farmer Shaun.” For more information on Grow It Green, go to their website here.
