We are proud that our partner Maura C. Smith has been sworn in as a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteer. Maura, a partner in our Insurance & Reinsurance Practice, completed the rigorous training to advocate for children in the foster care system, providing an independent, consistent voice for the child.
As the eyes and ears for children in the family court system, CASA volunteers provide critical information to help judges make the best decisions for children in foster care. They serve on the front lines with the courts, schools, healthcare providers and social services so each child receives the help and support needed while in foster care. CASA volunteers have an incredible impact on a child’s life; statistics have shown that children assigned to a CASA volunteer spend less time in the foster care system than those without CASA representation, and also have better chances of finding permanent homes.
By stepping into this role, Maura is making a vital difference for children in our community, and we are grateful she has taken it on.
