Riker Danzig’s corporate team is acting as local counsel to major health insurer Cigna in its purchase of health–plan provider QualCare Alliance. The transaction combines Cigna’s national health-related products and services with QualCare’s self-insured health plan services. Cigna is a Fortune 100 company with international operations; QualCare currently serves over 200,000 customers with approximately 800 employees. The acquisition is expected to bring additional jobs to New Jersey as QualCare builds its technology team to extend what it does in New Jersey to other parts of the country.

Mary Kay Roberts, chair of Riker Danzig’s government affairs practice group, has acted as legislative and regulatory counsel for Cigna for over twenty years in Trenton. In that capacity, she represents Cigna on a daily basis in insurance matters before the Executive Branch agencies, most notably the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance.
